About Depeche mode
How do a band continue going on strong after nearly 45 years of all-out action? When it comes to Depeche Mode, the answer is simple - continue what the band has done up to now: recording new albums, going on the road with a new tour and creating new music.
At the beginning of 2023, Depeche Mode has announced on a new world tour, the Memento Mori World Tour, which backs its new studio album, "Memento Mori". The tour kicked off in Sacramento, California. The first leg of the tour covers the United Stated and Canada, while the second leg, between May-August, will be played all over Europe. The 3rd leg of the tour will play back in North American between September and December, with a starting date in Mexico City. The 4th leg of the tour will be played in Europe between January-April 2024, concluding over a year of live stage shows.
Today's Depeche Mode is quite different from the band that was established in England in 1980 and consists of lead vocalist Dave Gahan and guitarist and keyboardist Martin Gore, two of the original four founding members of the band.
In addition to Gore and Gahan the original band consisted of Andy Fletcher, who passed away in 2022 and Vince Clarke. Before recording their 2nd album, Clarke departed and was replaced by Alan Wilder.
Depeche Mode is one pf the most important and influential electronic music, new wave bands, that followed Britian's punk and post punk bands of the late 1970's. Some music critics go as far as proclaiming the band to be the most important electronic music band ever to play.
Along the years, Depeche Mode has evolved from a sensitizers-based, electronic dance band, moving away from pop into a period of heavy, distorted guitar and drums sound, and later on allowing themselves to write political lyrics into the 21st century.
"Memento Mori", which was released in 2023, is Depeche Mode's 15th studio album. In addition, the band has released six live albums and 16 video albums.
In 2020, Depeche Mode was indicted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
